All Payment Card merchants are required to be compliant to the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard. McMaster University has taken a collaborative and long-term approach in educating and working with merchants within the University to understand, achieve and maintain compliance. For some merchants, there are many technical hurdles and costs involved in meeting PCI requirements if we don't work together in a standardized manner, which is often a challenge in a decentralized environment. Taking an integrated approach to Payment Card Processing is also proving to be an effective way to manage processing costs and increase services to students in a cost-effective manner, through the use of other payment processes (such as Interac Online).
